  4. You should find the following in this archive:
  5.  
  6.     CHANGES.101     The list of changes in version 1.01 of STeno
  7.     CHANGES.103     The list of changes in versions 1.02 and 1.03 of STeno
  8.     PATCH.PRG       A program that will update your STeno 1.00 to 1.03
  9.     READ_ME.TXT     This file
  10.     STENO.RSC       The new resource file for version 1.03
  11.     STNO_100.103    A data file for PATCH.PRG

  13. This archive may be distributed freely.  STeno however is a commercial
  14. product whose copyright is owned by Strata Software, and therefore may not
  15. be duplicated in any way other than for backup purposes.  If you frequent 
  16. various BBSes then please upload this patch program so that other STeno 
  17. owners can get the benefits of the new version.  As always, a $5 disk swap 
  18. is possible for those who can't get or don't want to use this patch.  Just 
  19. send in the *original* diskette and $5 to the address given at the end of 
  20. this file.

  23. To update a copy of STeno 1.00 to version 1.03 follow these steps:
  24.  
  25. 1   Create a (temporary) folder and put the following files in it:
  26.  
  27.     PATCH.PRG       STNO_100.103        STENO.100
  28.  
  29.     The name and location of the temporary folder is not important.  If 
  30.     you're using a floppy disk the root directory is fine, but don't have 
  31.     anything else there.  Also, make sure you've got at least 60K free for 
  32.     the output file.
  33.  
  34.     The first two files are from this patch archive, the file STENO.100 is
  35.     created in one of two ways:  if your distribution diskette contains a
  36.     file called STENO.100 then use that file, otherwise your distribution
  37.     disk is for version 1.00 and you should copy and then rename the
  38.     original STENO.ACC to STENO.100 in the temporary folder.

  40.     Note:  if you have enough disk space (ie. a double-sided floppy or a 
  41.     hard disk) you can put your STALKER.200 and the STKR_200.206 file from 
  42.     the STalker 2.06 upgrade patch in the same folder and update your 
  43.     STalker right after you finish updating STeno.
  44.  
  45. 2   Double-click on the PATCH.PRG program.  It will read from STENO.100 and
  46.     STNO_100.103 and will produce STENO.ACC.
  47.  
  48.     If any errors occur during the process (such as a disk full error) you
  49.     will be given a warning message and the update will be aborted.  Take
  50.     whatever action is necessary to remedy the situation and try again.  
  51.     The most likely cause is a write-protect or full diskette error.
  52.  
  53.     If you get an alert box indicating that the checksum doesn't match 
  54.     then there are a couple of possibilities as to what went wrong.  This 
  55.     could happen if you used the wrong file for STENO.100 - it must be the
  56.     version from the distribution diskette.  DO NOT USE YOUR EVERYDAY COPY
  57.     OF STENO.ACC!!  If you've used the "Save Settings" or the old 
  58.     STENOCFG.TTP utility it will be different from the original STeno 
  59.     version 1.00 file.  If even one byte of the file is different the patch
  60.     won't work.  The other possibility when things go wrong is that the 
  61.     STNO_100.103 file got corrupted during the downloading or unARCing
  62.     process.  This is pretty unlikely but has been known to happen.  Try
  63.     downloading it again and repeat the process.

  65. 3   Copy the newly created STENO.ACC and the new STENO.RSC found in the 
  66.     archive onto your boot diskette or your hard drive.

  69. That's all there is to it!

  71. Do *NOT* delete your original copy of STeno; it will be needed for future
  72. updates.

  74. Be sure to carefully read the CHANGES.101 and CHANGES.103 files.  They 
  75. contain detailed descriptions of the new features.
